On January 1st, 2023, five new female CEOs were welcomed to the ranks, pushing us over the 68-year-long goal.

Despite advancements in legislation like The Equality Act 2010 and increased representation in other areas of the workforce, female leadership is still notably lacking in many industries - particularly among CEOs.

Despite FTSE All-Share Index data from February 2023 showing nine female CEOs in the FTSE 100, including Severn Trent's Liv Garfield, no single woman of color is present. The Pipeline's research reveals that only 19 women lead companies within the FTSE 350 - representing just 6% of all top positions.

The gender gap persists in board and top executive positions throughout the FTSE 100. The government-backed FTSE Women Leaders Review found that half of these companies failed to meet their goal of having a 40% female representation on boards last February.

Furthermore, less than 10% are executive directors; only 18 chairs out of this group are women.

The gender gap in executive positions highlights a deep-rooted bias and prejudice holding female leadership back. It's time to take action to ensure gender equality is achieved in the workplace.
